Bus Stop on a Steep Street

The art is level, but the sidewalk slopes downhill. . . A colorfully painted bus shelter brightens spirits in the First Hill neighborhood.

Pleasant weather and pleasant sidewalk seating.

The Sorento Hotel

A seven story 4 star hotel at the top of First Hill, a welcome change from tourist areas and a quieter setting than downtown.

Looking Rather British

This station wagon at the Sorento Hotel lends a European feel to things.

Broadway Dance Step Hesitation

Dancing in the streets is a popular pastime on Broadway in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Curious, but not wanting to look too stupid, we stand and look at the Fox Trot Weave steps outside the restaurant where we ate dinner. (There are 8 different sets of dance steps along a two block section of Broadway, made and installed in the sidewalk by a sculpture inspired by the old Arther Murray dance studio intructions, and enjoyed by the neighborhood for many years).

Elongated Hexagon

There are theories about modern artists and architects having been affected by Froeber's kindergarten "gifts" or materials, such as pattern blocks or parquet tiles/mosaic pieces. However they came by their geometric influences, 30s through 70s architecture has a futuristic and decidedly bold take. Perahps Bucky Fulleresque?

Sunset Peek-a-Boo #6

I shot a similar view during the summer at sunrise and wondered on another visit in the winter at sunset what difference the light this time of day might make when I compared the two images. What do you think? Gehry's shingles capture so much color, and it shifts dramatically with the light.

Charming Entry

Charming Entry, originally uploaded by Seattle Daily Photo.

Here is the entrace to the apartment building that is slated to be replaced by a contemporary condo complex. I can just picture someone from the 1930s emerging from it, like Errol Flynn and Mary Pickford. There are many such vintage apartment buildings around Seattle.

Business Meeting Seattle Style

Okay, so we had snow flurries here yesterday and today, and these people are holding a meeting outdoors to accommodate the pooches. I panned out to show that, no, this isn't Paris--the only other city whose citizens seem this dedicated to their dogs.

This is what the couple on the observation deck of Smith Tower could see from where they were standing. The Space Needle is straight ahead. I liked the square windows and negative/positive lines of windows, plus the reflection. Lines and strips.

Whew!

Inbetween, originally uploaded by Seattle Daily Photo.

The sea plane looked like it would collide with the building from my point of view. I was glad to see it had flown past the north side of the building and had emerged beyond! Who manages seaplane flight plans. . .seems a bit too close for comfort.

How much DNA is left in that gum? Some people tend to manipulate an image rather than just stick a coin in a wad. Can you see the blue flower?

Santa Through the Nordstrom Window

From the sidewalk outside Nordstrom one can view visitors through the window having their photos taken with Santa. Some Seattle families, like these beautiful children, wait in line for a long while each year for the chance to tell St. Nick their Christmas wishes.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Lenin

This controversial sculpture in the heart of the Fremont district is lighted every year during the holiday season. Here I show the star-topped head and back. An historically bloody figure encased in lights that form a Christmas tree with a star on top--certainly gives one pause to wonder. . .
